A queer, neurodivergent, mother and song leader, geeky about voices and folk singing and grateful to have landed in community voice work as a profession.

Hello, I’m Sorrel,

Humans have always sung, we are born singing, communcating through our voices, connecting with caregivers and our community. My mission is to enable humans to do this throughout their lifespan. I want all people to have the chance to embrace and nurture their voice in loving community.

Singing can be a balm for the soul and a tonic for the nervous system and the more in connection with our voices we are through working with the breath and body, the greater the theraputic benefits of singing.

I work with people from all walks of life, bringing together song, improvisation practices, breathwork and bodywork to help people find more ease and confidence in their voices and in singing, for the love of it, for the connection and joy.

My groups are always open to all, whatever your experience or ability, you are most welcome. I always teach by ear, developing listening skills and memory alongside singing skills.

I have been running singing groups for 20 years and it has been a wonderful journey, I’d love you to join me on that journey.

Community singing Projects

Finding your voice/improving your voice at Bristol Folk House - 2014-2016 a series of voice development classes for adults.

Mama Song - 2013-2015 a singing group for parents, focussed on songs for nourishing the caregivers, with their children in tow. This included puppetry, provocations for the older children and small world play.

The Island Folk Choir - current. My longest running group and still going strong, a 50 piece choir who sing folk leaning songs in sometimes complex harmony. A deeply nourishing community with the most wonderful friendly people!

Gloucester Folk Choir - Current. Running for 3 years, a much smaller choir at about 20 in the town I now reside. Singing folk songs in harmony, a beautiful community of people, with lots of energy for socialising outside of choir. Super friendly and cosy.

Play Your Voice - Runs periodically. A series of vocal improvisation workshops, introducing games and exersises to develop confidence and offer a toolkit for improvising with groups.

Sound Bath - 2017 - a project undertaken with the Island Folk Choir to bring a tin bath to festivals to perform improvised soundbaths for passers by whilst they sat in the cushioned tin bath. Super fun and nourishing for all.
